Star wars starfighter movie : After months of speculation, Lucasfilm has officially confirmed that it is developing a new Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling. The new film will be directed by Shawn Levy and will be titled Star Wars: Starfighter.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially unveiled the new film’s production plans at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo on Friday morning. Levy and Gosling were both in attendance at the livestream event, with the Canadian actor making his first public appearance as the lead in a film in the franchise.

“Being here and meeting all of you makes me even more motivated to do this,” Gosling told the cheering audience. “There’s so much creativity and imagination and love here. It makes us realize what movies mean to us, and what these movies mean to us in particular. The Force is a mysterious thing, but when I’m here, the Force is the fans.”

Our only hope is, ‘May the fans be with us.’” Levy added, “We’re fans too. There’s obviously a connection between these stories and the audience, but we’ve been connected to the audience our whole lives. We know how meaningful that is.”

The standalone film will focus on a new group of characters in the Star Wars universe and is set five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The film brings the Skywalker Saga to a close and is the final chapter in the current Star Wars timeline. No other cast members have been announced yet. Starfighter is set to debut in theaters on May 28, 2027.
