MESA, Ariz — Emily Pike, the 14-year-old girl who was murdered earlier this year, was removed from her home by tribal social workers and placed in foster care after she reported being sexually assaulted at the San Carlos Apache Pueblo.
Emily had escaped more than once from the group home she was sent to in Mesa, Arizona. Police also received calls saying she had attempted suicide in 2023.
“The worst-case scenario is this happens again. Something happens, someone gets hurt. Gets sent somewhere else and ends up like my niece did,” said Emily’s uncle, Allred Pike. “We don’t want anybody to go through that.” Although multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are actively investigating Emily’s murder, no suspects have been identified at this time.
