Boca raton plane crash _ The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the small plane that crashed and burst into flames on a busy street outside the Boca Raton Airport in Boca Raton, Florida, on Friday morning. Three people on board the twin-engine Cessna 310 were killed when it crashed, according to Assistant Fire Chief Michael LaSalle of Boca Raton Fire and Rescue.
A man who was driving a car in the area was also injured when he struck a tree and was injured by debris and flames from the accident. LaSalle said his injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to a local hospital. “It is with great sadness that we confirm that a plane crash occurred in our community earlier today,” Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. We ask for your patience during the investigation and respect for the families involved.”
Officials said the plane took off from Boca Raton around 10 a.m. and was headed for Tallahassee. At around 10:12 a.m., Boca Raton Fire and Police Dispatch received a call about a plane malfunctioning, according to LaSalle and the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane crashed at 10:20 a.m. The deputy fire chief said the plane apparently “had some mechanical issues.” Data from FlightRadar24 showed the plane flew around the airport several times before crashing.
“I heard the plane whizzing by and then ‘whoosh’ – a plane crashed,” one witness said in a video posted on social media. “The whole building shook,” another man said.
