Chesapeake_ A Chesapeake woman has been arrested after she was injured during a police pursuit Saturday afternoon. The Chesapeake Police Department received a call about a 2011 Lexus RX 350 being pursued by police around 2:35 p.m. in Elizabeth, North Carolina.
The driver of the Lexus, 52-year-old Heather Lee Barrington, was believed to be driving under the influence and struck a police officer. When the suspect entered westbound Interstate 64 from Dominion Avenue, Chesapeake police became involved in the pursuit and set up spike strips at the scene. As the pursuit continued onto Greenbrier Parkway, Virginia State Troopers assisted in stopping the vehicle.
Barrington struck three state police vehicles as he approached Interstate 64 near the Indian River Road exit, causing a trooper to crash.
Barrington was stopped and a baby girl was found in the car, secured in a safety seat. The baby was taken to the Hospital for the King’s Daughters for evaluation.
The officer who struck the vehicle was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other officers were injured in the accident. Barrington was taken to the Chesapeake City Jail. No further details were immediately available
