Chicago man charged in fatal Oak Park shooting

Chicago_ A Chicago man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a man in Oak Park early Friday morning, Oak Park police said. Jabari McGee, 20, faces a first-degree murder charge, police said.

Oak Park police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of South Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. Friday and found 54-year-old South Holland resident Corey Gates unresponsive, police said.

Gates was then taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he later died. Officials said a witness told police that about five men wearing black fled the scene. Six people  three adults and three minors who fit that description were taken into custody, authorities said.

Police say the three minors and two adults who were detained have now been released without charge. Police say McGee is currently in custody awaiting his first court hearing. The investigation is ongoing.
